Before you know the algorithm you need to understand what is an algorithm ?

What is an Algorithm?

Google search algorithm is a complex system that allows Google to find, rank and return the most relevant pages for a certain search query. To be precise that whole ranking system consists of multiple algorithms that consider various factors such as quality, relevance or usability of the page. In a simple sentence algorithm is some programming codes/coding (May be long, may be short) to solve some problems/issues to ranking right websites on the top/1st page of Google search engine. It also helps Google to know which is copyright, virus, fake websites etc...

               Google Panda Algorithm

Google panda is a major change to Google's search results ranking algorithm that was first released in February 2011. The change aimed to lower the rank of "low quality sites" or "thin sites", in perticular "content farms", and return higher quality sites near the top of the search results.

Introduction of Google Panda Algorithm

Google Panda algorithm launched in the date of February 24, 2011. Initially, Panda was a filter rather than a part of Google's core algorithm but in January 2016, it was officially incorporated into the ranking algorithm.

This does not mean that, Panda is now applied to search results in real time. This algorithm marks the content of your website that, how genuine is your content!?

What Google Panda doesn't like ?

Google Panda doesn't like 6 things. Those are,

01. Poor user experience :- If your site makes it difficult for users to obtain certain information, or if it is not optimized for viewing on different screens, then you might be contributing to a poor user experience.

02. Duplicate content :- Google Panda penalties occur when websites manage to rank highly despite thin or poor content that doesn't serve the end user.

03. Plagiarism :- Plagiarism is the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work. In educational contexts, there are differing definations of plagiarism depending on the institution. Plagiarism is considered a violation of academic integrity and a breach of journalistic ethics.

04. Thin content :- Thin content is on-page content that has little or no value to the visitor. This means content that is automatically generated, unhelpful affiliate content, Content that has been stolen from other sites, or content on doorway pages.

05. Keyword Stuffing :- Keyword stuffing is a search engine optimization technique, considered web spam or spamdexing, in which keywords are loaded into a webpage's meta tags, visible content, or back link anchor text in an attempt to gain unfair rank advantage in search engines.

06. User generated spam :- Sometimes, spam can be generated on a good site by malicious users. ... This spam is usually generated on sites that allow users to create new pages or otherwise add content to the site.

Why Google created Panda Algorithm ?🤔

In the year of 2010 the falling quality of Google's search results and the rise of the "content farm" business model became subjects that were repeatedly making the rounds.

As Google's Amit Singhal later told wired at TED, the "caffeine" update of late 2009, which dramatically sped up Google's ability to index content rapially, also introduced "some not so good" content into their index.

Google's Matt Cutts told wired this new content issue wasn't really a spam issue, but one of "what is the bare minimum that I can do that is not spam ?

CNET reported a surge n the rankings of news websites and social networking sites, and a drop in rankings for sites containing large amounts of advertising. This change reportedly affected the rankings of almost 12 percent of all search results. Soon after the Panda algorithm roll out, many websites, including Google's webmaster forum, became filled with complaints of copyright infringers getting better rankings than site with original content. At one point, Google publically asked for data points to help detect scrapers at the time of the Panda update, commented that "with Panda, Google took a big enough revenue hit via some partners that Google actually needed to disclose Panda as a material impact on an earnings call. But I believe it was the right decision to launch Panda, both for the long - term trust of our users and for a better ecosystem for publishers.

Google's Panda algorithm received several updates after the original rollout in February 2011, and their effect went global in April 2011. To help affected publishers, Google provided and advisor on it's blog, thus giving some direction for self - evaluation of a website's quality. Google has provided a list of 23 bullet points on it's blog answering the question of "what counts as a high - quality site ?" That is supposed to help webmasters "step into Google's mindset".

Ranking Factors :-

The Google Panda (patent 8, 682, 892), filed on September 28, 2012, was granted on March 25, 2014. The patent states that Google Panda creates a ratio with a site's inbound links and reference queries, search queries for the site's brand. That ratio is then used to create a site wide modification factor. The site wide modification factor is then used to create a modification factor for a page based apon a search query. If the page fails to meet a certain threshold, the modification factor is applied and, therefore, the page would rank lower in the search engine results page.

Google Panda Update Launches :-

Panda was first introduced on February 23, 2011. On February 24, Google published a blog post about the update, and indicated that they "launched a pretty big algorithmic improvement to our ranking - a change that noticeably impacts 11.8% of our queries."
